by Gina Serpe Feb 14, 2006, 8:50 AM PT The has-beens are set for a do-over. VH1 is corralling 10 of its most memorable Surreal Life characters for a Vegas-set all-star competition series, The Surreal Life Fame Games.
Caviar dreamweaver Robin Leach will serve as ringmaster of the 10-episode challenge, which features cast members from all six Surreal Life seasons competing against each other in a series of elimination contests, with the winner receiving a $100,000 prize. "Hollywood celebrities tend to take themselves too seriously--we're going to have a great time lampooning the whole celebrity process," Abrego said in a statement Monday. The B-listers on board for the games include: former Webster star Emmanuel Lewis, rapper Vanilla Ice, ex-Baywatch babe Traci Bingham, porn star Ron Jeremy, New Kid on the Block survivor Jordan Knight, ex-Mrs. Stallone Brigitte Nielsen, former WWE wrestler Chyna Doll, Salt's rapping partner Pepa, and former Poison frontman C.C. Deville. So far, only one show alum has turned down the gig, according to producer Cris Abrego: MC Hammer. Like the Surreal Life series, the 10 "celebrities" will live together for two weeks in a Las Vegas pad, which will serve as the backdrop of the competition. "There's no way there won't be fireworks," says cocreator Mark Cronin. Each episode the players will compete in tongue-in-cheek elimination battles testing their Hollywood mettle in challenges that parody the plight of true A-list stars. Among the events: Red Carpet Showdown, Hotel Room Trash-a-thon, "What's Charo Saying?," referencing the heavily-accented fourth-season alum, and Paparazzi Hide-and-Seek, wherein--no joke--producers will let loose a swarm of well-known paparazzi to follow the contestants and whoever gets photographed the most, loses. The reality-competition show marks the fourth spinoff for The Surreal Life, joining the esteemed company of Strange Love, My Fair Brady and Flavor of Love, the only series of the four currently showing new episodes. Production on The Surreal Life Fame Games kicks off this spring.
