Lady Sovereign
Vertically Challenged EP
Filter Grade: £50
by MC Hatbox

Seeing how it's virtually impossible for me to hate on Lady Sovereign without coming off as a sexist, ethnocentric, fun-hating asshole... You know, I really don't know how to finish that sentence. I'm sure she's a real sweetheart of a young Missy, but sweet Jesus do I fucking hate her music. Sov is an 18-year-old, self-proclaimed midget (she's actually 5'1") from the mean streets of London who is the U.K.'s latest "teen sensation" in every sense of the phrase: she's sensational, sure, but man is she full of youthful attitude, and to a fault. Yeah, you read that right, she's sensational--she flows with the speed and accuracy of someone, well, a time and a half her age, and the beats she's grhyming© over are, as the kids say, hott shitt. But there's just something about the whole thing that I ain't buyin'. And yeah, she probably gets off on the fact that she can get snobs like me to curl their toes when her smash "Random" gets cued, but like I always say, you can roam the Streets 'til you're Dizzee, but that still don't make you either one.
