Tim Albrecht, Choreographer and Broadway Actor, Dead at 41

Tim Albrecht, a dancer and choreographer who appeared in Harold Prince's most recent revival of Show Boat, died in Los Angeles on Dec. 9, his friend Joe Cassidy told Playbill.com.

He was 41 and died in his sleep while visiting a friend in L.A., said Seth Rudetsky, a friend and colleague who worked on BC/EFA events with Mr. Albrecht. The cause of death is still unknown.

Mr. Albrecht was in the chorus of Prince's lavish 1994 Broadway revival of Jerome Kern's classic show Show Boat. One year prior to that, he appeared in the short-lived original Broadway musical Ain't Broadway Grand. The Thomas Meehan-Lee Adam-Mitch Leigh musical ran for only 25 performances. Other credits included two separate regional productions of A Chorus Line.

In recent years, Mr. Albrecht began to work as a choreographer at such places as the Gateway Playhouse in Bellport, NY and the Diamond Head Theatre in Honolulu. (His interest in Hawaiian culture was such that he took Hula classes in New York.) He was also involved in the annual Broadway benefit "Broadway Bares."

Rosie O'Donnell in many capacities. For four years, he was an associate choreographer on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show." He went on to choreograph all the shows on O'Donnell's cruises and production numbers on the morning talk show "The View," which O'Donnell joined in 2006.

A native of Montana, he became interested in theatre during his third year at college when a friend encouraged him to try out for a school musical.
