Michael Jackson is to be sued by a family who claim that the singer was responsible for their mother’s death, reports The Daily Mirror.

The suit alleges that 73-year-old Manuela Gomez Ruiz was moved out of a special bed in a Californian hospital, where she was recovering from a heart attack, to make way for the 'Billie Jean' singer, who was admitted with flu symptoms.

She later suffered a second, fatal heart attack.

The suit alleges intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, elder abuse, false imprisonment and conspiracy by Jackson, Marian Medical Center and Catholic Healthcare West, which owns the hospital.

It blames the hospital and the singer for the "outrageous, circus-like atmosphere they orchestrated during the last hours of Manuela Ruiz's life and its obvious emotional and mental lasting effects upon the plaintiffs."

Marian Medical Centre has reacted furiously, insisting that the suit is "another frivolous claim to generate publicity".

The incident occurred on February 15, 2005.
