Signed to Downtown Records, the same label that brought Gnarls Barkley to national attention, Kevin Michael brings a smoother vibe to the same mix of pop, hip-hop, funk and R&B that made "Crazy" such a breakout hit. On songs like "Vicki Secrets" and "We All Want the Same Thing," this 22-year-old Philadelphia native channels vintage Prince and Stevie Wonder, with maybe just a hint of Motown-era Marvin Gaye. Sometimes referred to as the Icelandic Sufjan Stevens, Benni Hemm Hemm writes songs that might be described as delicate folk-pop, if the arrangements weren't so stuffed full of sunny bursts of trumpet, kettledrums and glockenspiel. When we asked Benni to pick his 10 all-time favorite albums, the singer-songwriter decided to up the ante and pick which 10 albums would be the only ones he'd listen to while on tour. "That will probably give the list a little more weight," he explained, "because I'll really have to think about it."
