San Diego, California O.G., Mitchy Slick (of Xzibit's Strong Arm Steady collective), is preparing the release of his long awaited Urban Survival Syndrome album on DJ Muggs/Self Scientific's label, Angeles Records.
The rapper inked a deal with the label late last year, citing he respected what they do as a business.
"My thing was that Muggs and them got a steady track record of keeping they businesses running," said Mitchy. "I peeped they style and how they get down, [and] it wasn't like most of these labels that's really a gang or hood or family-oriented. Angeles just seemed like a regular record label to me. 'Cause I'm about business, I've already done a lot of hood sh--. Now it's about business."
Although the rapper welcomed the idea to get down with the still new Los Angeles based label, so did DJ Muggs, who feels Mitchy fits right into what they are trying to do.
"Mitch has been putting in work for a while," DJ Muggs told BallerStatus in December '05. "I respected his business 'cause you know how rappers are. Rappers are late all the time, they drinking, smoking, whatever. Mitch ain't drinking in the studio, he's grinding. He's banging out two songs a day and getting his work done."
The album's title, Urban Survival Syndrome (USS), comes from an actual disorder that Mitchy thought of after dropping Triggeration Station in 2001. According to Mitch, USS is used as the last resort in murder cases or urban-area cases, where a man will state that "he didn't have no other choice because of his environment" as his defense plea, just like post-traumatic stress disorder.
Currently, Mitchy Slick and Angeles Records are putting the finishing touches on the forthcoming album, which is slated to drop May 16.
