SportsTicker EUGENE, Oregon - Aaron Brooks will have to wait until next year to answer for losing his cool. Oregon's second-leading scorer and team leader in assists, Brooks was given an one-game suspension for the 2006-07 opener on Monday after being ejected from the Ducks' semifinal win over Washington in the Pac-10 Conference tournament over the weekend. Brooks also will be forced to sit out Oregon's contest at Washington next season on January 25. The junior guard was tossed from the first half of the Oregon's 84-73 win over Washington on Saturday, hitting Huskies guard Ryan Appleby in the face with an intentional elbow. "Aaron Brooks' actions are not indicative of what is expected of the student-athletes who represent the University of Oregon," Oregon director of athletics Bill Moos said. "We pride ourselves on being known for good sportsmanship and proper demeanor on and off the field of competition. I feel that Aaron's suspensions will send a clear message to him and others that this type of behavior will not be tolerated." "I fully support Bill Moos' decision," Oregon coach Ernie Kent said. "It was an out-of-character incident and we all feel very badly about it." | Slide show: The Week in Sports Pictures |
