ASalinas woman was arrested Monday on suspicion of practicing medicine without a license after she allegedly injected at least two people with Botox, authorities said.
Sheriff's deputies said Martha Mata Vasquez, 39, was paid for injecting the people with the substance, which authorities said has caused severe medical problems for the people.
Clerk cited for selling to minor in alcohol sting
One man was cited for allegedly selling alcohol to a minor Saturday at a Salinas 7-Eleven during a decoy operation funded by a California Office of Traffic Safety grant.
It was the second time that an employee at the store was cited for selling to a minor, police said.
Marcelino Martinez, 23, was cited at midnight on suspicion of selling alcohol to a minor at the store at 2068 N. Main Street, according to police. The department set up the decoy operation at 18 businesses in the city using a grant from an Alcoholic Beverage Control grant through the California Office of Traffic Safety. The 7-Eleven was the only one cited during the sting.
Search called off for man who fell into ocean
The search for a second man swept off Garrapata State Beach and into the ocean Sunday morning has been called off, authorities said Monday.
The men, identified as Hyun Choon Chung , 64, and Joong Pyo Lee, 47 were fishing with friends off the coast, just south of Palo Colorado Canyon Road, when both men tumbled into the water. Other friends tried to pull the men to safety, but couldn't reach them, authorities reported.
The sheriff's rescue team, state park lifeguards, Pacific Grove Ocean Rescue, Coast Guard and the Mid-Coast Fire Brigade, were called to the area by 11 a.m. The rescue workers found Chung's body in the water near shore. He was pulled to the beach and pronounced dead.
The search for Lee was called off at 5:30 p.m.
Man dies after being hit by car
A 49-year-old man died after being hit by a car at Sherwood Drive and Rossi Street on Sunday in Salinas, police said.
Police found Kipp Kline at 10:50 a.m. lying on the shoulder of Sherwood Drive unconscious. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
About an hour earlier Kline was seen walking south on Natividad Road and Laurel Drive, police said.
