Cameras are keeping watch

By HOWARD JONES

DEAN St’s footpaths are already covered by several security cameras fixed to private premises.

They include four on the Bended Elbow public house, more on the Globe Hotel and one at the Liquid Niteclub.

Some Bended Elbow cameras cover activity in the Ritz Arcade, where diners can sit outside, and others cover Dean St.

Other venues such as the Albion and Carlton have internal security.

Two of three chemists have cameras that cover the footpath and another has a camera covering the front door from an internal camera.

Dean St has several automatic tellers, with built-in security devices, located either at banks or as part of other commercial premises.

At least two ATMs have cameras covering general areas accessible to the public.

Several larger shops in Dean St such as Rebel Sports have internal security cameras.

The Myer Arcade has security cameras, including coverage of an entrance near the Bended Elbow.

Albury council chambers has camera surveillance in its public areas, including the ground floor.

This did not stop thieves stealing a valuable plasma screen device, the camera apparently pointing away from the theft area at the crucial time.
