will.i.am, leader of U.S. hitmakers Black Eyed Peas, said he didn't want his new solo album to be a typical producer's affair.

So rather than loading "Songs About Girls" with famous clients -- a list that includes Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Justin Timberlake, Mary J. Blige and Chris Brown -- will.i.am kept himself the album's focus.

"I wanted just to be a producer ... a songwriter and a vocalist and a rapper," said the signer, whose real name is William Adams. "I wanted to wear all the hats.

"I didn't want it to be: 'Yeah, I'm in Black Eyed Peas, we sold 25 million records, you wanna do a song with me, such-and-such?' And then I got this solo record that's not really a solo record."

"Songs About Girls" does feature on guest, rapper Snoop Dog, on the track "Donque." The album's first single is "I Got It From My Mama."
