Campaign for Medicare OFFICE

By TREVOR HULM
March 20, 2006

LEN Fares is not one to back away from a fight. And Mr Fares, a Warrawong trader, is hopping mad.

He cannot understand the reluctance of the Federal Government to re-establish a Medicare office in Warrawong.

Mr Fares said Illawarra had two Medicare offices, compared to five in Newcastle within a 10km radius of the city centre.

"It's a joke that people in our area can't readily access full Medicare facilities," he said.

Mr Fares has organised a rally outside Westfield Warrawong tomorrow at 10am to allow residents to voice their concerns. He said the call for a Medicare office had the support of resident action groups, neighbourhood committees and Westfield traders.
