NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. blue-chip stocks ended higher on Wednesday as investors stocked up on consumer staples companies' shares in response to rising interest rates. The Nasdaq ended slightly lower.

The Dow Jones industrial average (^DJI - news) was up 25.05 points, or 0.23 percent, to end unofficially at 11,005.74. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index (^SPX - news) was up 2.59 points, or 0.20 percent, at 1,278.47. The Nasdaq Composite Index (^IXIC - news) was down 0.92 of a point, or 0.04 percent, at 2,267.46.
