L.A. turntablist Cut Chemist is set to release The Audience’s Listening, his debut solo album for Warner Bros., June 13. A longtime member of underground rap crew Jurassic 5 and Latin funk group Ozomatli, Cut (né Lucas Macfadden) recently left those groups to focus on his own music. Aside from his highly bootlegged mix tapes, he has previously appeared on numerous DJ compilations, released live mix albums with collaborators like Shortkut and Nu-Mark, produced and remixed songs for other artists and issued an EP and a remix collection of his own. The 12, sample-based tracks on Listening run the gamut from Brazilian-inspired to Krautrock-influenced and, with rappers like Mr. Lif and Hymnal guesting on some songs, include some straight up hip-hop as well.
