The mind (and mouth) of Henry Rollins By Stefano Fuzzi/Contributing Writer Published: 4/6/06
Loved and hated for passion, honesty, and attitude, Henry Rollins has expressed his views and personality as author, TV/radio host, speaker, and frontman of both legendary punk band Black Flag and Henry Rollins Band. He has a revamped Henry Rollins Show on IFC, which will now boast more diverse guests and content, including live music of a rare kind for TV - uncensored, with no limitations imposed by show or network. But when ib sat down with Henry to discuss his show, he has more important things to talk about - including a sobering call to arms for America's youth.
Changes to the Show Last year the show was called "Henry's Film Corner," very film-specific, of course. This year, it's just called "The Henry Rollins Show," which means we don't have to stick to film, which is pretty cool, 'cause there are a lot of other things going on that are interesting to me. We got Chuck D, Oliver Stone, Werner Herzog, and Ozzy Osbourne's one of the guests. Hopefully, we can keep getting people who are just interesting, and get interesting interviews out of them. America's Concerns There are concerns about the war in Iraq disabling us from fighting the war on terror. We really have to assess FEMA when it doesn't seem to work. We should look at the No Child Left Behind Act, 'cause it seems that a lot of children are stupid in our country, and in my opinion, America should be the most educated, just blazingly intellectually intense country under the sun. We should be the example. What a great country we've got. Everyone should read. Everyone should be smart. I think there are forces at work that don't want people to be smart, because they might not go along party lines. They might go, "You know, I'd like to see a third party. I'd like to see five parties. I don't think that you told the truth about Iraq. I think there's some stuff we need to talk about." Right now I think you have an administration that counts on you being ignorant, resistant to information, not having time to crack open the big books and learn a thing or two.
