 Bruuuuuuce!
| Bruce Springsteen's upcoming studio album, We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions, is the latest release to be given a "Sneak Peek" by Clear Channel radio station Web sites. The collection of Folk cover tunes won't be in stores until next Tuesday, April 25, but it can be heard streaming on over 390 stations' Web sites up until this Thursday, April 20. As reported yesterday, the Boss will be touring the U.S. for a month, beginning in Boston on May 27.
The man who was allegedly shot by Rapper Proof in a Detroit nightclub brawl has died, according to the Detroit Free Press. Keith Bender had been in critical condition after being shot in the head, but died early this morning in Detroit. Proof allegedly shot the man before being shot himself by Bender's cousin, who was a bouncer at the club. Proof's funeral is set for tomorrow.Interscope and Hasbro are teaming up for actual dolls of the Pussycat Dolls. The burlesque-inspired Pop group will arrive in toy stores later this year, with even more tie-ins on the way. The New York Times reports that if the toy line is a hit, it could be incorporated in the marketing for the group's next single and album. Interscope President of Sales & Marketing Steve Berman told the Times, "Were not going to limit ourselves to only traditional and new digital models for selling music. We're going to look at every artist as a unique and special brand and look at what business relationships we can get into. Some artists, maybe none. Some artists, the doors are completely open." Up-and-coming bands Rock Kills Kid and The Subways will team up for a co-headlining tour beginning May 1 in Las Vegas, wrapping up in Washington D.C. on May 23.
Iggy Pop has been holed up in Florida writing a new album with The Stooges. The as-yet-untitled set, their first since 1973, is due out next year via Virgin Records and will be produced by Steve Albini, according to Billboard. It will also feature several tracks produced by Jack White. "All the same passions and problems are there," Pop told Billboard of writing with his old band. "But the problems are in a more muted style. I'm still the showoff in the group that gets all the attention. Everyone has their role. It's pretty much the way it was in high school."
The Black Crowes have tapped Robert Randolph & the Family Band and the Drive-By Truckers as opening acts for their nine-week summer tour. The outing will kick off June 10 in Seattle and run through August 12 at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
Self-proclaimed "love metal" band HIM will return to North America for a spring tour that includes festival appearances at Bamboozle and Sasquatch!. The trek begins on May 2 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and ends in Las Vegas on June 8.
Ill Nino will embark on a 28-city headlining tour in support of One Nation Underground. The One Nation Undivided spring tour, presented by Jagermeister, will also include God Forbid, Silent Civilian (featuring former Spineshank singer Johnny Santos), Eyes Of Fire and Bleed The Sky. The tour begins May 10 in New York City and continues through June 10 in Ill Nino's home state of New Jersey.
