The conference, in collaboration with and endorsed by the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning, is a prominent vehicle for nursing educators involved with learning resource centers and clinical simulations to strengthen their roles through learning, sharing and networking with professional colleagues. The theme of this year's conference, sponsored by Villanova University College of Nursing, is Nursing Education on the Move: Technology, Creativity and Innovation.

Curran and Rankin's presentation will share the vision and implementation of The Ohio State University College of Nursing's project to embed informatics competencies and use of a clinical information system into the undergraduate curriculum. The project integrated a production-ready clinical information system (CliniComp) into the skills lab, simulated the clinical practice environment using virtual cases and human simulators, embedded informatics knowledge and skills into the existing medical /surgical (including high acuity) curriculum and created a virtual community of patients that students "get to know" across their curriculum. These components enhance clinical and informatics competencies as well as critical thinking of undergraduate nursing students.

"It is a testament to the effectiveness of CliniComp's solutions that they are being used as a training model for The Ohio State University College of Nursing, one of the country's most respected nursing programs," explains Chris Curran, clinical associate professor at The OSU College of Nursing. "This innovative project prepares nursing students for the real-world challenges they will face and equips them to maximize the benefits of clinical information systems."
