Bruce Springsteen, Godsmack, and Taking Back Sunday made strong debuts on the Canadian album chart, but it was R&B songstress Rihanna that was tops with Canadian record buyers.
Her sophomore disc "Girl Like Me" made the biggest impression of the week, entering in at No. 1 on sales of just under 13,000, according to data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan.
Her first album, "Music of the Sun," peaked at No. 7 in September of last year.
The big entry forced James Blunt's "Back to Bedlam" (10,000) out of top spot after four straight weeks, down to No. 2.
Bruce Springsteen's "We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions" (9,000), Godsmack's "IV," and Taking Back Sunday's "Louder Now" spent their first week at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Michael Buble's "It's Time" slipped one space to No. 6, Andrea Bocelli, thanks to an appearance on the hit Fox TV show "American Idol," jumped up from 24-7, and the Randy Bachman-Burton Cummings collection "Songbook" checked in at No. 8.
Pink's "I'm Not Dead" had no life in its second week, dropping from No. 2 to No. 9, and ringtone sensation Crazy Frog dropped 4-10 with "Crazy Hits."
Other notable debuts included Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris's "All the Roadrunning" at No. 13, the Goo Goo Dolls' "Let Love In" at No. 15, Pilate's "Sell Control For Life's Speed" at No. 19, Feist's "Open Season" at No. 25, and DJ Tiesto's "In Search of Sunrise 5: Los Angeles" at No. 34.
In the U.S., Godsmack roared into top spot, debuting with 211,000 copies sold, according to Billboard.com. It was followed by Taking Back Sunday in second, Bruce Springsteen in third, Avant's "Director" in fourth, and Rihanna in fifth.
