 Kanye West
| Kanye West is a last-minute addition to the lineup for the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, which will take place this weekend in Indio, CA. West will play on Saturday night along with Common, Franz Ferdinand, Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, Depeche Mode, Eagles Of Death Metal, My Morning Jacket, Head Automatica, She Wants Revenge, Wolfmother, Living Things and many others. Sunday's lineup will be headlined by Tool, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Massive Attack, Bloc Party, Scissor Sisters, Matisyahu, James Blunt, Sleater-Kinney, Coheed And Cambria and Gnarls Barkley also will play.
Dave Matthews Band has announced that it has issued a $1.5 million challenge grant to help build the New Orleans Habitat Musicians’ Village. The Village is a Habitat For Humanity project that seeks to build more than 300 homes in the city’s Upper Ninth Ward with musicians and other New Orleanians who were displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The Village will consist of homes as well as the Ellis Marsalis Center For Music, named after the modern Jazz pioneer and New Orleans native. "This is our way to get the word out that there is more work to do, and ask people to step up to the challenge and make a donation to help," said DMB in a statement. The contributions will be matched dollar-for-dollar through the grant, raising the total donation potential to $3 million.
Shinedown is also doing their part to help rebuild New Orleans. The band will take a day off from touring in New Orleans next week to team with Habitat and help rebuild homes, according to MTV.com. Singer Brent Smith recently wrote "New Orleans" on the front of his shirt for two national television performances to remind people that work still needs to be done in the city. And in one more New Orleans-related news item, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are the first band to sign on for this fall's Voodoo Music Experience, according to Billboard. The festival will take place in New Orleans on October 28 and 29. This Monday, May 1, FMQB Productions presents the world premiere of Stadium Arcadium, featuring a live interview with the Chilis from New York City, along with the premiere of selected tracks from the new album. The broadcast special will air on radio stations around the country at 8 p.m. Mick Jagger has agreed to appear in a new ABC sitcom about a plot to rob the Rolling Stones' singer. Jagger has shot the scenes for the pilot episode of the still-untitled series, which is in consideration for the network's fall schedule. The Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows have mapped out the itinerary for their upcoming summer tour. The 45-date trek will begin on June 17 in Las Vegas and wind up in Dallas on September 9.
India.Arie's third album, Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationships, has been pushed back to a June 27 release date. The project features eclectic guest appearances from Akon, Country act Rascal Flatts and Bela Fleck & the Flecktones bassist Victor Wooten.
Still riding high with new singer J.D. Fortune and their new album, Switch, INXS has booked their first European tour since 2002. The tour will kick off at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on October 12 and INXS plans to play a series of intimate venues to reconnect with fans. Underoath will release their third album, Define The Great Line, on June 20. The band will kick off their own headlining tour May 3 in Columbia, SC and climb aboard this summer's Warped Tour as of June 15. Underoath is current in Sweden filming videos for the new tracks "Writing On The Walls" and "In Regards To Myself." The Steve Miller Band's Fly Like An Eagle will be re-mastered and re-released in a deluxe edition from Capitol on June 27. The Classic Rock band kicks off a spring and summer of touring on May 25 in Sonoma, CA.
