Country rock rebel David Allan Coe takes over the State Theatre (703-237-0300). An album featuring Coe collaborating with members of rock-metal band Pantera has been in the works for a long time. Maybe he'll crank it up and do a few numbers from it during the show. Or maybe he won't. That's the thing about Coe, you never know.
Saturday
Roots-rock band the U-Liners plays Iota (703-522-8340) with Lester Chambers (from the Chambers Brothers). . . . It's an evening of classic sounds at the Music Center at Strathmore (301-581-5100) when Martha Reeves, the Platters and Cornell Gunter's Coasters perform.

Zalmen Mlotek, executive director of the Folksbiene Yiddish Theater, appears in a free concert at Adas Israel (202-362-4433). Mlotek was co-creator, music director and conductor of "Those Were the Days," a Yiddish and English musical that was nominated for two Tony Awards in 1991.

Jazz great Maynard Ferguson & Big Bop Nouveau start a four-night run at Blues Alley (202-337-4141). . . . Globe-trotting DJ Paul Van Dyk is at Nation (202-554-1500). He's one of the most popular DJs in the world, and when he gets the groove going, you'll see why. . . . Big Daddy Kane is one of my favorite rappers in the history of the genre. He's at Zanzibar (202-554-9100) with Rob Base and DJ Kid Capri.
