Jagged Edge Continues Longevity

By JONATHAN LANDRUM Jr., Associated Press Writer Mon May 15, 2:45 PM ET

Jagged Edge, "Jagged Edge" (Columbia Records)

While male R&B groups seem to be on the decline — overshadowed by hip-hop acts and solo crooners — Jagged Edge manages to remain relevant by crooning about real-life situations on their latest, self-titled album.

Providing positive, meaningful and uplifting love songs have been the quartet's niche for almost a decade, and nothing changes on this disc.

On the group's first single, "Good Luck Charm," they celebrate woman who always supports her mate through the good and bad times. The track has a similar tempo to 2000's ballads "Let's Get Married" and "Promise," and makes for a good listen.

Things pick up on "So Amazing," featuring vocalist Volitio, who infuses the Jermaine Dupri-produced song with a reggaeton sound, while Paul "PJ" Morton adds some guitar play to the background.

Jagged Edge also teams with new soul sensation John Legend on "Season's Change," harmonizing as Legend plays the piano; later, he blends his voice with the rest of the group.
