Aiden, Emma top list of Kansas baby names

Aiden has hung on for a second year as the most popular boys' name given to Kansas newborns in 2005.

The trend for Celtic and English boys' names continues with Ethan, Kaden, Conner, Caleb and Dylan joining Aiden (sometimes spelled Aidan) in the top 25.

Emma occupied the top spot on the girls' list for the third year running. Hailey, Emily, Kaitlyn and Madison join Emma in the top five.

The state Department of Health and Environment this week released its annual list of the 25 most popular names for new babies, based on information gathered from Kansas birth certificates.

The top 25 girls' names were: Emma, Hailey, Emily, Kaitlyn, Madison, Abigail, Olivia, Hannah, Kaylee, Riley, Grace, Alexis, Madeline, Alyssa, Elizabeth, Ava, Brianna, Mackenzie, Makayla, Sophia, Ashley, Natalie, Lauren, Isabella and Anna.

The top 25 boys' names were: Aiden, Jacob, Ethan, Kaden, Brayden, Joshua, Connor, Caleb, Andrew, Jackson, Joseph, Michael, Tyler, Dylan, Logan, Daniel, Alexander, Zachary, Nathan, Nicholas, William, Jayden, Mason, Gabriel and Matthew.
