MOSCOW. May 15 (Interfax) - Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho believes
he made a mistake when he sold the film rights for The Alchemist to
Warner Brothers several years ago.
Coelho told a Monday press conference at the Interfax main office
that it was stupid of him to sell the film rights to the movie company.
Coelho thinks that readers should imagine the action rather than
see it on a screen. There is always something wrong with the movie, the
writer said.
Coelho said that he had tried to reclaim the rights and had offered
$2 million to Warner Brothers, but the film company refused to sell and
promised that he would like the script. The company has been sending
scripts to the writer since then, and each time he believes that the
script is awful.
