S. AFRICA'S SEETHER HITS THE BURT MAY 19

Grunge is back. Or at least it will be on May 19, when South Africa rockers Seether play a gig at Burton Cummings Theatre. Kurt Cobain-sounding frontman Shaun Morgan and bandmates Dale Stewart (bass), Pat Callahan (guitar) and John Humphrey (drums) opened for Audioslave at MTS Centre last fall but return as headliners in support of last year's release, Karma and Effect.

Tickets cost $24.50 - $28.50 and go on sale at Ticketmaster Friday at 10 a.m.

MOVIE HELP WANTED

Got an itch to be in pictures? Kari Casting is holding a call for extras for upcoming Jeff Daniels feature film The Lookout, shooting in Winnipeg and Hartney from late March to late May. Identical twin babies around six months old and adults who can skate are needed, along with general background players. Set in Kansas, the movie from writer-director Scott Frank (Minority Report) is about a disabled bank janitor (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who gets involved in a robbery of his own bank.

Drop by Artspace, at 100 Arthur St., Saturday, from noon - 4 p.m., with a recent photo and a resume or casting form -- you can download one at www.karicasting.com. Kari Casting also expects to round up extras for pro skateboarder Steve Berra's movie The Good Life, also set to shoot in Winnipeg starting in late March. Berra wrote and directs the drama about a young boy who befriends an elderly man.

NIAGARA FALLS MARCH 24

Local director Gary Yates' second feature film Niagara Motel is tentatively set to open in theatres March 24. Wendy Crewson, Kevin Pollak and Craig Ferguson star in the movie based on George F. Walker's Suburban Motel plays. It will be the major local opening this month, following Sean Garrity's psycho-drama Lucid March 17.

SEND IN THE CRUMBS

CRUMBS improv guys Stephen Sim and Lee White are packing their bags for another European tour. But first, they mount fundraising show Berlin or Bust VI at the Gas Station Theatre Saturday.

The toasts of the annual Berlin International Improv Festival for the past five years, the duo plan to spend three months on tour in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia, after which Sim is competing in the World Improv Festival Berlin or Bust VI. Showtime is 8 p.m. Admission is $10, $8 for students and Gas Station members.

NOVEL APPROACH

Local novelist Linda Holeman's latest book The Moonlit Cage has been snapped up by publishers in Britain, Germany and Holland. Now she launches it for the hometown crowd tomorrow at 8 p.m., at McNally Robinson Booksellers, Grant Park. Blending magic and historical drama, the novel follows the adventures of a 19th century Afghan woman who, after being cursed by her stepmother, embarks on an odyssey that will eventually take her to England.
