Calla, New Vision graduate together Calla High shared the stage with New Vision on Friday. The newest educational center in Weston Ranch witnessed the graduation of its first-ever class. And since both sites recently combined for their prom, Calla High Principal Lindsay Munoz said it was only natural that they do likewise the same for the commencement ceremonies. Altogether, 126 students participated in the special occasion held at Calvary Community Church, with many having to overcome personal obstacles just to reach that point. Shana Tuimavave, who nearly missed her chance to speak at graduation because of an emergency, credited the teachers and staff for providing a nurturing environment. As for the results? “They put us one step closer to establishing our goals,” said the New Vision graduate. Brandi Stone was grateful to the staff at her school. “Calla came into our lives to give us a second chance,” she said. Some of the students received special recognition from their site. Others were awarded handsomely with scholarships from the various organizations. These scholarships included: Incidentally, Lipinski reportedly spent the past few months attending San Joaquin Delta College, and will be studying business at Stanislaus State in the fall, according to Munoz. For many, graduation signaled a conclusion to one aspect of their life. Perhaps Calla instructor Linda Dixon said it best: “Life’s school is never out.” The 2006 Calla High and 2006 New Vision High graduates are: Juan Acevedo, Elizabeth Aldaco, Pedro Aldaco, Diana Alvarez, Amanda Alvitre, Sabrina Avant, Jaymar, Bacalagan, Nadya Barbosa, Nicholas Batye, Jonathan Berry, Elizabeth Blanco, Brian Born, Rodney Bostelman, Darnell Brooks, Kimberly Burton, James Cain, Leslie Calderon, Alex Campos, Brandon Cantrell, Angelica Carranza, Martin Carillo, Alex Castellanos, Christina Chagoya, Roy Conney, Emma Contreras, Darius Dixon, Jario Dominguez, Alexander Dunn, Mislissa Dye, Keith Edwards, Marco Escobedo, Shanice Ferguson, Joseph Flores, Michael Flores, Joseph Fuentes, Yesenia Fuentes, Joseph Gatto, Cecelia Garcia, Cesar Garcia, Edgar Garcia, Ruben Garcia, Sean Garcia, Robert Gaston, Joseph Gatto, Farris Geter, Peter Gomez, Catrina Gonzales, Daniel Gonzalez, Miguel Gonzalez, Bertha Guerrero, Glenda Gunderson, Ivan Gutierrez. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it only comes once to a people. Those who have known freedom, and then lost it, have never known it again.” Procrastinate on what to do this weekend? So you forgot to make Memorial Day travel plans and it’s already Saturday? |
