Another Canadian, Nelly Furtado, jumped six places to No. 3 on Billboard's flagship Hot 100 chart with "Promiscuous" featuring Timbaland, her biggest hit to date. Furtado's debut, "I'm Like a Bird," went to No. 9 in May 2001. "Turn Off the Light" reached No. 5 in November 2001.
Back on the current Hot 100, Fort Minor's "Where'd You Go" featuring Holly Brook rose one to No. 4, and Rihanna's "SOS" fell two to No. 5. Cassie's "Me & U" surged seven to No. 6.
Sean Paul's "Temperature" fell three places to No. 7, Lil Jon's "Snap Yo Fingers" featuring E-40 & Sean Paul Of The YoungBloodZ slipped one to No. 8, and Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" featuring Wyclef Jean climbed seven places to No. 9. The Fray's "Over My Head (Cable Car)" fell two to No. 8.
The Hot 100 welcomed new cuts from two "American Idol" season-five contenders. Chris Daughtry's version of Bon Jovi's 1987 hit "Wanted Dead Or Alive" was the chart's top debut, at No. 43, while "Idol" winner Taylor Hicks' rendition of the Doobie Brothers' 1976 single "Takin' It To The Streets" bowed at No. 69. This is the first time that the person crowned "American Idol" has not first appeared on the Hot 100 with a song from the finale. The song given to Hicks, "Do I Make You Proud," did enter the Adult Contemporary chart at No. 21, and should show up on the Hot 100 as soon as sales kick in.
Also new to the chart were the Wreckers' "Leave The Pieces" (No. 68), Dashboard Confessional's "Don't Wait" (No. 80), Dem Franchize Boyz' "Ridin' Rims" (No. 92), Little Big Town's "Bring It on Home" (No. 95), Sean Paul's "Give It Up to Me" (No. 97) and Busta Rhymes' "I Love My B****" featuring will.i.am & Kelis (No. 98).
Meanwhile, Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" continued its slow climb, advancing three places to No. 35. It's a different story in the United Kingdom, where the single is now in its ninth consecutive week at No. 1. That's the longest-running U.K. chart-topper since Wet Wet Wet's remake of the Troggs' "Love Is All Around" spent 15 weeks on top in 1994.
Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie" led the Hot Latin Songs chart for a third week, and Yung Joc's "It's Goin' Down" remained atop the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for a second week. Bubba Sparxxx' "Ms. New Booty" featuring Ying Yang Twins and Mr. ColliPark ruled the Hot Ringtones chart for a ninth week.
Dierks Bentley's "Settle for a Slowdown" held at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart for a second week. The Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Dani California" led the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock tallies for a seventh and fifth week, respectively.
