Iranian Producer Gets Papoose and Mos Def for LP
June 8, 2006
It’s not easy to get artists like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Sizzla, Saigon, Dead Prez and Papoose all down for one cause.
However, where there’s a will there’s a way. Producer K-Salaam knows all about that.
Salaam, whose background is Iranian, did everything possible to get the aforementioned artists to jump on his The World Is Ours compilation, even if it meant flying out to Jamaica to approach Sizzla in person. Now, The World Is Ours LP is scheduled for a July 11 release on Koch Records.
“One of the meanings of the title is it’s for the people and telling them that the world is ours. It’s for the streets,” Salaam exclusively told Vibe.com. “It’s also taken from Tony Montana’s phrase the, “World is Yours.” He had the right idea, but he had it half right.
“His whole idea was he had to do whatever he had to do to survive and I’m saying we gotta do whatever we gotta do to survive.”
Salaam was straightforward when getting the diverse group of hip hop and R&B artists to record for his album.
“I’m the type of person where I could look someone in the eye and tell them what I want to do,” says Salaam. “There are a lot of phony people in the music business, but some of these people are real and when they see you’re real and have a real vision, they get on the project.
“They saw my vision.”
The World Is Ours LP also features artists like Capleton and Kardinal Offishall.
