MP3: Spider: "Don't Be Afraid, I've just come to say Goodbye, The Ballad of Clementine Jones"

"Spider is Jane Herships' folk project. Her tunes have the quality you look for in music if you've been under the spell of artists like Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley and Cowboy Junkies. Intense, poignant, delicate and somewhat dreamy, Spider's beautiful songs remind us that the strength of our thoughts and emotion can be very powerful indeed." - thedelimagazine.com

MP3: The Minor Leagues: "The Pestilence Is Coming"

The titular track from The Minor Leagues' new album, "A jubilant, dizzying collection, highlighted by colorful, kaleidoscopic melodies that just seem to pour out of Walpole effortlessly. Exquisitely arranged and sublimely orchestral, Walpole's songs are padded with layers of unique ornamental extras (xylophone, Peruvian pipes, glockenspiel, accordion, etc.), but none of it is extraneous.. And the hooks are some of the best you'll find on any Pop/Rock album; fans of undeniable melody-masters like Brian Wilson, The Kinks, Beulah, The Apples in Stereo and (old) Blur -- you have a new favorite band." - Citybeat.

MP3: New Grenada: "Emergency Brigade"

The dense urban clutter of Detroit instills in its denizens a certain can-do ethic, either with a scream to rise above the surroundings or an innovation that celebrates them. New Grenada chooses the latter. The Detroit four-piece is a bold conglomeration of dynamic rhythms, thundering riffs, soaring synths, and lilting vocals that alternate between male melodicism and female snarling. New Grenada chooses to harness their potential energy into musicianship, rather than merely amping it up to ten. The group jigsaws their pieces together with equal parts Confusion is Sex attitude, sock hop swagger and pop deconstruction.

MP3: The Foundry Field Recordings: "Holding the Pilots / Holding the Facts"

"The Foundry Field Recordings' debut is the form that indie rock will take when the government androids move in next door. The Columbia, MO foursome and producer Barry Hibdon tirelessly trick out each catchy track. Billy Schuhs' lyrics deal with bleak takes on world war ('Warning Raids Of Kiev'), artificial intelligence ('Clones Were Made For Them, But Not For Us') and technology ('Circuits On Board'), so its up to his fragile tenor to inject the humanity. Even if, 'everything is burning down,' Schuh almost sounds cheery on, 'Holding The Pilots / Holding The Facts,' which solders together Head On The Door-era Cure guitar, Benjamin Hooks vibrant drum work and some ominous horns." - CMJ.

MP3: Syd Matters: "Someday Sometimes [EL-P remix]"

Don't let the band name fool you, there is no one named Syd Matters in Syd Matters. Syd Matters is actually a band led by a young Frenchman named Jonathan Morali who started as a bedroom rocker in his late teens. Salon.com calls their US self-titled debut "consistently impressive." Featuring the tracks "All Of You" as heard on the prom episode of this past season's The OC and "Someday Sometimes" remixed here by EL-P.

MP3: 7L & Esoteric [ft. Kool Keith]: "Daisycutta"

7L & Esoteric, a Boston-bred duo with roots traceable to golden age greats such as the iconic Gangstarr, have boldly stepped out of the box with arguably their most creatively inspired release to date, A New Dope. Having collaborated with such artists as Marley Marl, and Inspectah Deck from the Wu-Tang Clan, 7L & Esoteric have re-emerged with the hot new track "Daisycutta," a quick-moving collaboration with the legendary Kool Keith. A New Dope hits stores June 27th on Babygrande Records.

MP3: Spielerfrau: "ALT"

The tentpole track of Spielerfrau's debut LP, The Sad Part, "ALT" has the temerity to sound nothing like the rest of the album. An excursion into vintage Krautrock (even the title is a homage to NEU), "ALT" rocks a head-nodding, one-chord arpeggiated riff over a motorik beat. Atop it all, Russian-born singer Michael Idov flatly recites a vicious and funny screed against identity-pimping in pop culture: listen closely for jabs at M.I.A., t.A.T.u., and fellow New Yorkers Gogol Bordello. Add to that periodic bursts of psychedelic backward guitar and the sudden arrival of the sung chorus, and the picture is complete. "Six years stateless, with a refugee passport / Didn't make me authentic, just made me an asshole."

MP3: Evangelicals: "Here Comes Trouble"

"It must be tough to be in an indie rock band from Oklahoma, especially if you lean towards making hepped up, psychedelic pop in the vein of, well, those other Okies. But the Evangelicals, hailing from Norman, OK, seem to be up for the challenge. Their debut album So Gone comes off like a hyperkinetic melding of Satellite Heart-era Flaming Lips and a wide-eyed, ADD Wolf Parade with maybe a touch of Clap Your Hands' off-key yowling." - chromeowaves.net.
