When Al Green, Lauryn Hill, India.Arie and the Roots perform on Saturday in downtown West Palm Beach, two locals in particular will be hanging on every note -- and every box-office dollar. The Soul-Full Saturday festival at 7,300-capacity Meyer Amphitheater is a maiden voyage of sorts for business partners Bryan Silber, 25, and Chase Tureaud, 29, county residents who are making their debuts as big-league concert promoters. Silber believes the local entertainment menu hasn't kept pace with the economy, especially in West Palm's more city-fied downtown. "With all the development and growth, young people need things to do. ... There's a consensus out there that it's kind of boring." Raising the local pulse with pricey soul stars has required "a major investment," Silber says. But if attendance is brisk and the festival does well, he says this could be the first of many "soul-full" Saturdays.
THOU SHALT SKATE HARD: Such is one of the Summer Commandments for SoFla youth from MTV's skateboard stunt stud Bam Margera of Viva La Bam and Jackass: The Movie fame. He's in town Sunday for an exhibition to kick off CityStreets' Summer Skate Camp, the first camp to be held at the massive 36,000-square-foot competitive indoor skate park, which opened in Coconut Creek in May. The Bam Bash is free from 2 to 5 p.m. but doors open at 10 a.m. (4939 Coconut Creek Parkway; 954-969-0050; www.citystreets.biz). You also can partake in all of CityStreets' fun, from laser tag to rock climbing.
RETAIL FOR A REASON: Call it capitalism for a cause. The Seal the Deal on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach this weekend plans on raising big bucks for Easter Seals and the Igoe-Amar Child Development Center in West Palm Beach. For a $20 donation, shoppers can while away the afternoon strolling from one tony boutique to the other sampling champagne and refreshments while rifling through goody bags filled with discounts on designer duds. The event is Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. with free parking in the 150 Worth and Hibiscus parking lots. For advance tickets, contact Easter Seals at 561-471-1688 or go to www.worth-avenue.com.
CALLING ALL BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE: AARP The Magazine wants you. The bi-monthly mag's Road Show is coming to 72nd Street and Collins Avenue in Miami Beach from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday in search of "real people" models ages 50, 60 and 70-plus. The editors are looking for natural (read: not surgically enhanced) women and men. Health screenings, chair massages and free samples will also be available. More info: www.aarpmagazine.org/roadshow.
