Hoku stock falls below $3 a share

Shares of Kapolei-based Hoku Scientific Inc. fell 9 percent, or 27 cents, to close at $2.88 a share on the Nasdaq Stock Market yesterday.

It was the first time shares of the fuel cell technology company have closed below $3 a share.

Hoku's shares have traded lower since the company recently announced a move to diversify into the solar panel manufacturing business.


KHON NAMES NEW SALES CHIEF

Susii Hearst, regional sales manager for KHON-TV, has been promoted to general sales manager.

Hearst has held various positions at KHON over the past 11 years, including her most recent stint as regional sales manager. She replaces William Spellman, who recently left the station.

Hearst also is president of the Hawaii Association of Broadcasters and is past president of the Hawaii Advertising Foundation.


MATSON EXPANDS PACIFIC SERVICES

Matson Navigation Co. will upgrade its service to eastern Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands, effective Aug. 4 with a new biweekly liner service from Guam.

Matson is chartering a 425-foot vessel for the new service, which will stop at Ebeye, Kwajalein, Majuro, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Chuuk. Matson currently offers a monthly service to the Marshall Islands from Honolulu with the container barge Islander and a 21-day service from Guam to Kosrae, Pohnpei and Chuuk through a connecting carrier agreement.


HAWAIIAN TOPS MAGAZINE'S LIST

Hawaiian Airlines has been ranked as the nation's top airline serving Hawai'i by Travel & Leisure magazine's 2006 World's Best Awards for the eighth consecutive year.

Hawaiian was ranked as the fifth-best domestic airline overall, following JetBlue Airways, Midwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines. Respondents rated airlines in five categories: cabin comfort, food, in-flight service, customer service and value.
