Hootie & the Blowfish shows to aid schools
June 29, 2006
The Associated Press
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Hootie & the Blowfish will launch a 10-city concert series Monday in Nashville to help collect school supplies for children.

Darius Rucker, lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish, performs in Orlando, Fla., in March 2003.

Ticketholders are encouraged to bring school supplies to shows in the Homegrown Concert series. The supplies will be donated to each community's public school system.

In each city, a business or organization will make a donation to the schools. In Nashville, the Hard Rock Cafe will donate $5,000 to LP Pencil Box, a school supply center where teachers can get supplies for students who can't afford them.

The group started the event in Charleston, S.C., in 2003, and the next year expanded it to other cities in the Carolinas. This year, they're visiting cities in Pennsylvania, Texas, Alabama and Florida.

Hootie & the Blowfish's hits include "Hold My Hand," "Only Wanna Be With You" and "Let Her Cry." The band's latest album is "Looking for Lucky."
