Hope of the States: in-store tonight!

Just a quicky...

South-coast progressive pop-rock six-piece Hope of the States are performing a very special acoustic set THIS EVENING.

The band will play HMV's Oxford Street, London branch tonight at 6pm (nearest tube is, as guessed, Oxford Circus) to celebrate the release of new single, 'Sing It Out'. Being as it is a record store, there's a good chance you'll be able to buy the single there and if not, you have to question the marketing mentality of HMV.

ADVERT TIME!

urgh

their new stuff is vomit inducingly bad. i really liked lost riots, but what i've heard from the new record sounds like they've abandoned everything that was good about their debut album and gone chasing the adulation of the nme reading masses.

sigh.

oh dear

i've not heard the new stuff. but i'm seeing them soon...

i thought the new stuff has been okay

fair enough, its not black dollar bills, but bands have been panned for not changing their sound in the past.

the singles from the last album were arguably "chasing the adulation of nme reading masses," in that they were cracking guitar pop songs. the album had the 6 and 7 minute epics.

based on what i heard at king tuts on the club tour in february (i think), the new album seems to follow that. the string soaked symphonies they're famed for don't get played on radio 1 during the day, so you get sing it out and blood meridian.

its your opinion, you can't like what folk tell you to. i just think that was a very strange rant up there ^

Erm

Isn't that a picture of Johnny Borrell of Razorlight fame?

Unless they've since changed the picture

That is most definitely Sam Herlihy.

I have to say I quite like what I've heard of the new stuff (ie, Sing It Out and Blood Meridian). Album should be interesting.

Sing It Out?

I didn't even know Blood Meridian was out yet?

I really liked that though, is the new stuff really bad?

Like, did you like Blood Meridian and then thought the rest was crap? Or did you dislike that as well?

Blood Meridian is worth it just for the video. Haven't laughed that hard for a long time

The new HOTS material is a bit s'ite. Less post, more indie = not great.

Hot

HOTS were on some channel 4 thing the other evening and they played 4 of the new songs; I thought they sounded really good

This Guy's death mysterious?

They are quite original in my opinion
good serious vibes
coincidentally however....
am working on a website which might, might, refer to musicians' mysterious deaths
am into comparing some media deaths to the GEC-Marconi syndrome of their scientists dying in mysterious circumstances in large numbers (if you don't know about that google the trigger words before you respond)
obviously this Jimmy Lawrence thing sounds worth investigating
and this investigator has already suspected Peter Gabriel of having being shown Marconi's top secret technology, which is being guarded very violently indeed
so what's happened is very curious....going to bed now, will respond tomorrow night.
