WITH the World Cup quarter finals only a few days away, Hertfordshire Constabulary is reminding supporters that violence and disorder will not be tolerated.

Superintendent Dave Thomson said: "I am pleased to say that so far during the World Cup the majority of people have been enjoying the event in good spirits, with a large number of people coming into our towns to watch the games.

"So far 43 people have been arrested in relation to disorder and violence during or following England matches. This sends a firm message to potential trouble-makers that we will enforce acceptable standards of behaviour on Hertfordshire's streets."

As England progress in the tournament, police are expecting tension levels to rise and people's emotions to hit a high.

Superintendent Thomas added: "We are expecting thousands of people to descend on the town centres this Saturday to watch the match against Portugal.

"We want everyone to enjoy the game peacefully and safely and not cause any disorder.

"Extra officers will be on patrol to deal quickly and effectively with those who are causing disorder."
