In a product preview to select media at its Chakan proving-track near Pune, Bajaj has showcased its new Pulsar 220 DTS-FI. Billed as a 'no compromise performance motorcycle', the 220 DTS-FI features fuel injection technology, developed exclusively in collaboration with Delphi.

Fuel injection is touted as the next wave in motorcycle technology in the country, with Hero Honda having launched India's first ever fuel injected motorcycle, the Glamour FI, early this week.

While Hero Honda chose to launch FI technology in a mass-produced, economy-oriented product, Bajaj has gone on to present the new technology in a performance bike.

The new Bajaj Pulsar features an all-new 220cc single-cylinder engine that produces about 20 bhp, making it the second most powerful production bike in the country, after the Enfield Bullet 500, and allowing it a top speed of 135 kph, as claimed.

In terms of styling, the 'road scalpel' -- as it is touted by Bajaj, resembles the edgy machine the manufacturer showcased at the Auto Expo this January.

Some of the features in the Pulsar 220 DTS-FI, which will be seen for the first time in an Indian production motorcycle, are oil cooling, tubeless tyres for the front and rear, disc brakes at both ends and a digital speedometer with diagnostic indicators.

Bajaj has not indicated the pricing of this new motorcycle, which is scheduled for launch during the festive season.
