IRS Says To Beware Of E-Mail Scam Promising Refund

The IRS is warning San Diegans to be on the lookout for a new e-mail scam.

Investigators say fake e-mails are being sent out, telling the recipient they're eligible for a small refund.

The e-mails then provide a link for them to go to and enter personal information. The IRS says the e-mails may look official, but they want you to know that they're not.

"They're using the IRS insignia from the Web site, so we have our investigators looking after that and we have folks going out letting folks know not to fall prey to it," said Raphael Tulino of the IRS.

The IRS says it never contacts taxpayers via e-mail. Investigators say they've found Web sites linked to this scam in at least 11 countries.
