We Are Scientists in NO re-release shocker...
It's the re-release party to end all parties, so come on down Kaiser Chiefs, Editors, Sandi Thom... oh, all o' y'all... except you, We Are Scientists. You're... weird...
Yup, the US pop-rockers have pulled the plug on plans to re-release their 'The Great Escape' single, bucking what's become quite The Trend.
First released last October, the single was due to be the trio's next offering, but WAS's Chris Cain wrote on the fan site What's The Word (click for link):
"We were feeling more and more queazy about a second re-release, cuz re-releases are dumb."
The band have already re-released the single 'Nobody Move'. They're to tour the States in the autumn, alongside The Spinto Band and Art Brut. Not a bad bill at all, that.

Not quite.
"This Scene Is Dead" is their best song by a mile, and hasn't been released at all. The album is patchy, though.
i really dislike we are scientists music.
Totally unmelodic. Can they sing at all or just speak/shout?
i fucking love them
their album never fails to put me in a good mood. Not a cool thing to say, but I play by my own rules.
I lost my pants
I take your point, but I probably wouldn't have mentioned it if it wasn't for the fact that 90% of new music I hear is nearly as unmelodic. Its like melodies have become 'uncool' or something...weird. Then you get some more unmelodic shit, like that band people called fat...um...I forget what they are called, and even though they BARELY have melody, and have the most simple, basic harmony singing, people wet themselves over it. Bah humbuggery
We are Scientists, along with Tom Vek are the epitomy of this worrying trend
I would agree but ...
Listen to Metronomy - Black Eye/Burnt Thumb and THEN tell me that melody is dead.
you can't judge
tom vek until you see him live, in my opinion. though you may have seen him live, i don't know.
i feel his recordings are totally awful, but his live show is excellent fun and he looses that awful monotone drone on stage.
haven't seen Tom Vek live, but funnily enough do enjoy his music. You can do monotone and it can work fantastically, but there are just too many things like that at the moment
saw tom vek live
and he sounded uninspiring.
then i heard his album, and he sounded uninspiring.
i dont understand what you mean by a lack of melody
their last single (the "my body is your body") one clearly has a melody. you could recreate the vocal on a keyboard over a metronome and it would be completely recognisable to anyone who had heard the original. the vocals have a defined rythm and pitch intervals. its a melody.
i honestly dont understand tho
there is loads of unmelodic music out there, but theyre a pop band with melodies. not terribly interesting or clever melodies, but certainly melodies.
I don't believe you don't understand.
You seem to have developed a posting 'style' that involves quibbling with every tiny detail, like some know it all smarmy teacher pet kid in a class.
So yes, well done, technically, you are right. Maybe they do have melodies, insofar as there are some notes and they hit them- however, what I've heard is dull boring and repetitive, there is a lot of shouting, and a lot of the time they change note when they change chord- which in my opinion, whilst TECHNICALLY qualifying as a melody, isn't melodic. Its dull.
So yes, what I said may have not been technically '100% correct', but if I called you an 'annoying prick', that wouldn't be 'technically correct', but you'd know what I meant, non? You wouldn't feel the need to point out that 40% of the time, such as when you are asleep, you are not annoying, therefore you are not TECHNICALLY an annoying prick?
I say
They are the musical equivalent of a happy meal without the toy.
So what will be the next single then?
Has to be This Scene Is Dead or Lousy Reputation. Thank God they're not re-releasing The Great Escape anyway, MTV2 DID NOT STOP PLAYING IT!
Cmon
They have a few good songs, just that some of their others are slightly generic. Inaction wasn't too bad.
're-releases are dumb...'
but they're the only way when you only have 2 good songs...
