That's the ruling from state elections officials in Texas. Carole Keeton Strayhorn and Kinky Friedman have both made it onto the November ballot as independent candidates for governor. They both wanted their nicknames listed on the ballot as well. Friedman will get to use Kinky, the pen and stage name the author-singer has used for years. He'll be listed as "Richard `Kinky' Friedman." But Strayhorn won't get listed as "Grandma" on the ballot. She's used the slogan "one tough grandma." But this grandma isn't giving up without a fight. She says she'll file suit to get her nickname on the ballot.
