An opening slot for Murder by Death — an Indiana band that's nearly perfected its Edward Gorey-meets-Cursive aesthetic — is quite possibly the last place one would expect to find Lapush. A more appropriate venue for the trio might be a chip shop in the heart of London, a place where mod kids and Britpop survivors debate the merits of the Verve, Stone Roses and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. In fact, it's these bands that inform Lapush's viscous, droning grooves. The band is hard at work demoing songs for its second album (vocalist-guitarist Thom Donovan reports they have twenty already; find some at myspace.com/lapush), while the Urban Hymns-reminiscent "Tout le Monde" will appear in the upcoming film Outpatient.
