Album Review: Blackbud - 'From the Sky' (Independiente)

**

By John Murphy

With the media seemingly queuing up to praise them, Blackbud's début album promises much, with influences like Led Zeppelin and Jeff Buckley.

Strangely, that turns out to be a problem: the trio wear their influences so overtly that it's distracting.

They're a tight, professional unit which manages to loosen up enjoyably on 'Alone' and the bluesy 'Sitting By The River'; but you come away feeling distinctly that they haven't yet found their own voice, the experience unfortunately a pedestrian one.
