Friday Fire: Lloyd Banks or Young Buck, Mya Learns That Game GOT HIS OWN SHOE And More Friday - July 21, 2006
It seems like 50 Cent has a lot riding on Lloyd Banks' new album, Rotten Apple, which is due on Sept. 19. And hey, it's for a good reason too. G-Unit's lyrical Boy Wonder has records with Scarface and the God MC himself, Rakim, on the album. Not just any MC gets heavyweight revered guest appearances like that. Let's face it, when he wants to, Banks has punchlines, flows and lyrics for days. However, as much as 50 is touting Banks impending LP, I sincerely hope he does the same with Young Buck's next album. Call me crazy, call me absurd ... I don't care. Listen closely to what I'm saying. Young Buck is a superstar.
Even if you're a G-Unit hater, you have got to recognize this dude. He has a star presence that you can't teach. While Banks is superior to Buck lyrically, Buck's presence, personality and CHARISMA on a track is priceless. Priceless. You can't teach that. Banks has never exuded (and probably never will exude) the kind of personality that Buck has on a track. Banks can hit me with a punchline that I'll go and tell a friend about, but often his flow gets monotone. Buck is so lively. The only reason I'm making the Banks to Buck comparison is because I distinctly remember 50 taking the blame for the streets declaring Buck's Straight Outta Cashville album better than Banks debut LP, The Hunger For More. Obviously, we all understand the Queens connection between Fif' and Banks, and the desire of Curtis "Billion Dollar Budget" Jackson to push Banks as a lyrical genius. However, how about just calling it what it is: Buck's debut was better than Banks. That's how your Fire starter sees it at least. So, in all this is just a long way of saying that 50 better hype Buck's project as much as he is with Banks because it's a problem when Buck isn't mentioned with guys like T.I., Young Jeezy and Ludacris. It is a problem. Listen to Buck's track, "Do It Myself." You'll see what I mean. ...
I spoke to the lovely Mya Wednesday (July 19) evening. As the conversation ensued, the Game's infamous line from his "Dreams" track about the songbird was brought up. At first, she revealed she wasn't impressed and at that point, on behalf of the Game, who I think is a solid artist, I had to let her know that the Compton native "GOT HIS OWN SHOE." I had to let her know, "But Mya, THE GAME GOT HIS OWN SHOE," I said. She laughed it off. Mya's album, Liberation, drops Oct. 24. Fellas, she's a very, very captivating individual. ...
Tha Bizness
As a hip-hop journalist, it's crucial to stay as ahead of the game as possible and at all times. Well, if you too want to stay ahead of the curve, keep an eye on and your ears out for a production duo of cousins named Tha Bizness. In a matter of months, they're going to be mentioned in the same breath as Cool & Dre. Consisting of cousins, Dow Jones and J-Hen, Tha Bizness was recently signed to Sha Money XL's Teamwork Music Inc. They're currently doing in-house production for the G-Unit camp, including Buck and 50. So, the next time someone asks you what the business is, you tell um Tha Bizness is Dow Jones and Jhen. ... Speaking of Sha Money, the G-Unit Pres. let me know that G-Unit's Hot Rod has "the same kind of melody that 50 does." We'll be the judge of that. ...
I can't believe Lil' Scrappy is going to re-create 50 Cent's infamous "How to Rob" track. When 50 did the track back in 1999, hip-hop took notice. How can we forget Jay-Z's classic retort: "I'm about a dollar, what the f--- is 50 Cent!?" I'm sure the same will take place with Scrappy. Maybe the Game will say, "I'm about a steak dinner, what the f--- is a scrap?" or "I GOT MY OWN SHOE, I don't rock scraps." Anyhow, I'm sure it's going to be one of the most buzzworthy records of the year. I wonder if Scrap will lyrically rob the dude from D4L that grabs his ankle in the video. Terrible. ...
Some important questions:
Is it just me or are The Roots on tour more than the New York Yankees?
Now that Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro have separated, does that mean B-Real can holla again?
When it comes to hooks, is Cham the Midwest's version of 50 Cent?
Big Tuck
Speaking of which, fans that loved Chamillionaire's "Ridin'" will love Big Tuck's "I Know U Want That." The track featuring Chamillionaire has a hook similar to "Ridin'" Derrrtaaay. Big Tuck is one of the dudes pushing Dallas to the forefront. Keep an eye on him as well. ...
For all the peeps that spend about 15-20 minutes of their work day peeping videos on YouTube...your days of slacking off are over. A journalist is suing the site for copyright infringement. If successful, the lawsuit could open the floodgates for many more suits to follow. Also, er ... wait hold on, I'm trying to figure this YouTube video out:
Ok, Ok, Ok...I would like to hear a collaboration between Jay-Z and Akon. Someone make that happen.
