Sean Paul fires up The Forks Aug. 30

By STAFF

Better take your Temperature. Dancehall rapper Sean Paul brings the heat to a concert at The Forks Aug. 30. Tickets go on sale Saturday at Ticketmaster -- $35 for adults, $20 for youth.

Paul, whose latest album is The Trinity, is on tour with Mariah Carey. He'll headline a five-hour show at The Forks, with several opening hip-hop acts between gigs in Toronto Aug. 29 and New York City Aug. 31.

ANOTHER FIX IN BRANDON FOR FOLK-FEST JUNKIES

Oh, what? One summertime folk festival isn't enough for you anymore? If that's the case, and you really didn't get your fill of folk, roots and country-rock during the four-day shindig at Birds Hill Park earlier this month, may we suggest the 2006 Brandon Folk Music and Arts Festival, taking place tomorrow until Sunday?

There's one big difference -- everything's on a smaller scale -- but other than that, things are pretty much the same, right down to the on-site camping options included in the price of admission.

Gates to the Brandon Keystone Centre will open tomorrow at 6 p.m., setting the stage for performances by The Errant, Fingle's Last Pint, Swamp Gas, Anagram and local agitprop legend Greg MacPherson.

Afternoon workshops have been scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, along with sets by Cam Penner & Gravel Road, The Farmers, the Mark Atkinson Trio, Andrew Neville & Poor Choices and The Bills, among others.

Tickets can be purchased (in Brandon) at Ted Good Music, Surridge's Music, Ten Thousand Villages and Lady Of the Lake by calling (204) 727-3928, or at the gate.

They cost between $30 and $35 for an adult three-day pass, $22 for a student/senior three-day pass, $18 for an adult single day pass and $12 for a student/senior single day pass.

If you'd like to get in for free, you can sign up to be a volunteer. One four-hour shift gets you a free same-day admission, while two four-hour shifts get you in all weekend. Call Matt Duboff at (204) 726-3325 or duboff@mts.net for more information.

TRAVERS AT PYRAMID OCT. 25; SEVENFOLD PLAYS 'PEG SEPT. 12

True to his word, blues traveller Pat Travers has made good on a promise to reschedule a concert he had to pull the plug on earlier this month.

Travers was set to play at The Pyramid on July 9 but had to cancel when his drummer sustained an injury. He'll instead play the same venue on Oct. 25, at which time tickets for the earlier gig will still be honoured.

In other concert news, metal-meisters Avenged Sevenfold will play the Winnipeg Convention Centre on Sept. 12.

Tickets will set you back $29.50 or $35, and will go on sale this Saturday through Ticketmaster (780-3333 or www.ticketmaster.ca)
