Unbusted
Fenway Recordings Sessions heads to the Beachcomber in Wellfleet on August 12. On the bill: the UNBUSTED, who just completed an album, and JAKE BRENNAN, who cut an album in two days with Paul Q. Kolderie on which he plays and sings everything save vocals on one track from X’s John Doe. Brennan will have his band, the Confidence Men, along for this one. . . . READ YELLOW just wrapped a long-awaited sophomore effort produced with engineer Greg Norman (not the golfer) at Electrical Audio in Chicago.

Over at Somerville’s Q Division, Catholic-raised Mike Denneen reports he’s “in limbo,” even though he knows that’s where unbaptized dead babies go. But he’s talking about his status with the CLICK FIVE, who are midway through their album at Q Division. Popular in the Far East, the band are off touring Japan and may return to the studio later this month.

ED VALAUSKAS is not in limbo but “on hiatus” vis-à-vis his Fenway Park–playing band the GENTLEMEN. As a producer, he just finished an on-and-off year-long project with FURVIS, a debut album that may be called Furvis Furvis Furvis. Managed by Michael Creamer, the band are looking for a label and thinking indie. Valauskas on the sound: “It’s like an amalgam of Pavement meets Wilco meets the Band, which is pretty impressive for 21-year-old kids. They have really good record collections.” Valauskas is also producing a song for the WGBH kids’ TV show Design Squad by the DENTS. And he’s recorded a couple of Dents/Mike McColgan (STREET DOGS) songs for iTunes.

More at Q: the angular, new wavish PROTOKOLL have finished some singles with Rafi Sofer at the helm. They’re signed to an English singles deal by Mumbo Jumbo. And Sofer engineered (and did dance remixes) for MELISSA FERRICK, who was in recording with producer Ethan Allen (not the furniture).
