Health, housing issues guiding voters in gubernatorial primary

The issues guiding Norwich residents’ choices in the gubernatorial democratic primary are varied.

Candidates John DeStefano and Dan Malloy are vying for the chance to face Governor M. Jodi Rell in November.

Jeff Sattler, executive director of the Southeastern Connecticut Housing Alliance, formerly a resident of Maryland and has been a resident of Connecticut since June, said that he cast a vote for Malloy because of his policy towards housing.

“He was the mayor of Stamford and it has one of the better affordable housing (policies).”

Bruce Dora, an electrical designer, stopped by on his way to work to cast a vote for DeStefano.

“His policies are very labor friendly,” he said.

Jack Rochester of Norwich also voted for DeStefano and said healthcare was a key issue for him in the primary.

“He talks a lot about giving everybody healthcare even those without health insurance and that kind of caught my eye,” he said about DeStefano.
