The Northern Territory Environment Centre has cautiously supported a study showing Darwin Harbour seafood is safe to eat.
Tests were carried out after fears the sewage outfall at Larrakeyah could be making people sick.
The centre's executive director Peter Robertson says toxin levels can build up over time and there needs to be ongoing monitoring of the harbour.
"This study, which was basically catching about 27 fish on a given day and testing them, this study seems to show that those fish have lower levels of certain contaminants than would trigger health concerns," he said.
"So in a sort of qualified sort of way then this is good news."
