British Accents Newsletter: Kasabian, Razorlight + more
by Staff | 08.17.2006

*KASABIAN will return to the US in September for a handful of shows, including September 17 at the Paradise, and September 20 at Webster Hall.

*DAMON ALBARN has a new project called "The Good, The Bad, and the Queen", featuring SIMON TONG (formerly of the VERVE, one-time BLUR fill-in), the production prowess of DANGER MOUSE, and more. Albarn was quoted as saying it's a very English record, maybe the most Anglo work he's done since 1994's "Parklife". Expect a single as early as October and an album in early 2007. Not sure what this does to the timeline for new Blur material.

*The first round of bands playing CMJ have been announced, and they include THE FUTUREHEADS, THE KOOKS, THE KNIFE, SILVERSUN PICKUPS, BOY LEAST LIKELY TO, BEN LEE, BLONDE REDHEAD, HOT CHIP, DEERHOOF, BLACK KEYS, WHITE WHALE, THUNDERBIRDS ARE NOW! and many more tba.

*THE KOOKS have announced a handful of US dates - 2 in LA, September 26 at popscene in SF, and September 28 at Northsix in Brooklyn. It's believed the band will return a month later to play CMJ and a few more US dates.

*THE FUTUREHEADS will play the Paradise in Boston on October 28, with tickets onsale soon.

*Catch RAZORLIGHT in a one-off NYC show at Bowery on September 11, during an off-night from their KEANE support duties.

*PLACEBO will reportedly join SHE WANTS REVENGE for a tour that stops at Boston's Roxy on November 8, Nokia Theatre in NY on November 7, and October 24 at the Warfield in SF.

*While the smoke is still clearing from the fallout of TEST ICICLES, the band's former singer DEVONTE HYNES has emerged with a new band called LIGHTSPEED HEAT, featuring some of the members of WHIRLWIND HEAT.

*In NYC tonight - "All England Club" returns, calling on Anglophiles to don their tennis whites and head down to Lolita Bar from 9-2, with free Bass ale from 10-11. MTV2's "Subterranean" will be there too.

*The underwear of indie-raunch extrordinaire PEACHES has been withdrawn from eBay, with the site saying that the item, which was donated to raise money for charity, was unsuitable for sale. Perhaps it's a biohazard risk.

*GOMEZ will release a "best of" CD called "5 Men in a Hut" on September 25 in the UK.

*In other best of news, OASIS' "Stop the Clocks" album will see a US release on November 21, a day after the UK edition hits import bins.

*BETH ORTON recently canceled her UK tour, but she has a good excuse this time - she's pregnant. No word on when the little Orton is due.

*Hey New York - there's a band playing Pianos on August 22 called DE NOVO DAHL. If you're into ARCADE FIRE you should dig this band. They're playing with HOPEWELL and a few others. Go see.

*Check out the playlist from last week's 3-hour British Accents show here

*You can download the entire show on your iPod or iTunes (ala a podcast) by going to www.wmfo.org and clicking on British Accents "last show" on the schedule page.
