“Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", dos Beatles, foi votado o melhor disco dos 787 que chegaram ao primeiro lugar na Inglaterra desde 1956. A votação, para comemorar os 50 anos do começo da parada oficial britânica, foi promovida pela Radio BBC 2 com a participação de 220 mil votantes. Os Beatles tiveram três outros álbuns entre os 10 melhores, “Revolver” em sexto, “Abbey Road” em oitavo e o álbum branco em décimo.

Em segundo ficou “Thriller”, de Michael Jackson, seguido de “The Joshua tree” (U2), “Rumors” (Fleetwood Mac) e “Wish you were here” (Pink Floyd). O mais bem sucedido álbum do Pink Floyd, “The dark side of the moon” não entrou na votação porque ficou em segundo lugar quando saiu na Grã-Bretanha.

A banda contemporânea a conseguir o lugar mais elevado foi o Oasis, com o 13º lugar para “What's the story morning glory”. O Radiohead ficou em 27º com “OK computer” e o Coldplay em 31º com “X&Y”.
