At Waltham's Gore Place, apropos Labor Day tours

In honor of the holiday, Gore Place will offer special Labor Day tours this weekend. Follow a guide in period costume through the former Waltham home of Governor Christopher Gore and see the early 19th-century mansion's marble floors, spiral staircase, period furnishings, and oval parlor.

The tour will focus on the work done by servants, farm workers, and others involved in managing the 400-acre estate 200 years ago. Tours will be offered hourly from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday through Monday at 52 Gore St. in Waltham. Admission is $10, and $5 for children ages 5-12.

If you miss the Labor Day event, you still will have a chance to learn about Gore's lifestyle, the life of the servants, and the politics of the day during a Full Moon Tour of the mansion at 7 p.m. Sept. 8. Admission will be $12, $8 for ages 4-12.
