TV ciritc's choice for the weekend

What, no Neil Young?
What, no Neil Young?

For "Decades Live: Lynyrd Skynyrd" (7 p.m. today, VH1 Classic), the band tears into "Sweet Home Alabama" for the 34,502nd time, with the help of Bo Bice, 3 Doors Down and Hank Williams Jr.

Country comforts

If they ever resurrect "Hee Haw," I recommend Jeff Foxworthy for hosting duties. His new variety show, "Foxworthy's Big Night Out" (7:30 p.m. today, CMT), owes a lot to that pioneering show, mixing downhome humor and big-name country stars for one mild, but appetizing outing.

Anchor away

Dan Rather's departure from CBS News was as unfortunate as a crippled fly at a frog convention, or at least that's how I imagine Dan would put it. Hear his Southern-spun witticisms and reflections in "Dan Rather: A Reporter Remembers" (8 p.m. today, WCCO, Ch. 4).

The wizard of odd

If Merlin was really the greatest magician of all time, couldn't he make that mile-long beard disappear? "Merlin's Apprentice" (7 p.m. Saturday, HALL), with Sam Neill sporting the extra hair, explores this mystery and another that involves the Holy Grail.
