United States Government through the Agency for International Development (USAID) has on 24th August signed a total estimated contribution of $ 16,702,509 to be used in enhancing democratic governance in Sierra Leone, a release from the US embassy states.
The release stated that the grant would support decentralization and local governance, agriculture and youth's employment, polio vaccination and vitamin A distribution initiatives, as well as provide technical assistance and support for the presidential, parliamentary and local government elections. It will also help the diamond sector reform project, which includes the Diamond Area Community Development Fund (DACDF).
"The signing of this grant agreement's is another proud symbol and a manifestation of the United States government's and the American People's continued commitment to the development and prospering of Sierra Leone and its people.
The USAID coordinator said at the signing ceremony adding that they are ready to work with the government of Sierra Leone. The Minister of Development and Economic Planning, Mohamed Basiru Daramy signed the grant on behalf of the government of Sierra Leone.
