Relapse Records, home of High On Fire, Mastodon, Dysrhythmia and countless other metal bands, has just announced it will be sponsoring a local women's roller derby team, the Heavy Metal Hookers, to be a part of the Philly Rollergirls league. The league is a "skater-owned and opterated, DIY" collection of skaters and teams in the Philadelphia area. The Hookers' first bout and debut is scheduled for April 9 at Millennium skateworld in Camden, NJ. The team members all have creative and interesting metal names like Holly Caust (#101), Val Halla (#17), Weopon X (#1%), the Slim Reaper (#77), and even one with a Mayhem reference - Chainsaw Gutsfuck (#7).

Joining in the larger league of roller derby teams, the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) which contains over 30 different independent all-girl derby leagues, the Relapse-sponsored Hookers are ready for action. Captain Ivana Rock (#11) says, "the Heavy Metal Hookers are foaming at the mouth in anticipation for our first season of kicking ass on the roller rink." Their energy and mouth foam won't only be focused on the rink though, as she says they plan to utilize their "war-force of beauty and brutality" in the mosh pits of Relapse shows.
