Hip-Hop Rumors: Jay-Z Album Info, The Square of Terror, The Roots.
GOOD LAWD - THE SQUARE OF TERROR!
This will be very, very interesting. The word on the block is that Ray Benzino and Dave Mays are completely serious about this return to glory we know this. But according to RadarOnline, these guys are about to get it poppin' with their new magazine. In the latest developments, it is rumored that they are going to re-join Mimi Valdes, the former Source employee who was recently let go from VIBE magazine, and Wendy Williams, the queen of radio (or something like that). Let me tell you all something: this might work. Apparently, Hip-Hop Weekly was a working title and the new name is The Truth. Not sure about the title, but with Mimi on the edits and Wendy doing the gossip, this is a force to be reckoned with. I know this wasn't easy to make happen, because several words have been exchanged between Mimi and Zino, but it would seem that everybody has made their peace. No statements have been made to confirm but I think we will all be talking about this soon because rumor has it this mag will launch in the Fall. I'm anxious to see how this comes out and, of course, I'll be scouring it for rumors!
WHAT THE HECK - MORE JAY-Z ALBUM INFO WITH A DASH OF NAS!
Being the Jay-Z fan that I am, I have to say that I believe I've stumbled over some new information for you Hip-Hop lovers. First, I've been informed that Jay-Z's album is going to be called President, which certainly suggests he's not leaving his post anytime soon. Moving right along, I hear its dropping November 21 and it’s going to be on Roc-A-Fella, y'all! Am I right? Now, others say it’s going to be on November 14 and have a different album title, but I'm sticking with the information I already have. I don't know why, but it sure sounds right to me. Nas and Jay in two months? Yeah, Nas said he's dropping on November 7, but a birdie at Def Jam told me that it won't be until December. And after that, I supposed we'll get the homey Kanye and Jeezy? Can we handle this as Hip-Hop lovers? I don't know, but the year is finishing strong!
I'm hearing Jay-Z dropping his new single in October, called "Show Me What You Got." My homey Freeze Fiya hit me with this picture, but the date is obscured! I can't tell if that's a "2" or if they blurred it on purpose to add to the suspense. I am determined to get a clearer one!
THE ROOTS MAD OR LEAKING INFO!?!
There are SO many rumors going around about this, so, I’m letting it be known that this isn't coming from the kid, because I have heard much to the contrary. According to The Root's site okayplayer.com, they have released a rumor that Jay-Z has been fired. They claim the firing will come as Jay-Z returns to the mic and he's going to “voluntarily” resign. The rumor I’ve been hearing was that Jay-Z was indeed quitting to return to the mic, but that Jigga Man is actually going to stay on as Def Jam's president. Another rumors is that, while Jay-Z is the president, all the decisions made are not solely his. There are other people pulling strings but he's the figurehead people see the most. Anyway, the okayplayer editor seemed pretty upset about the way The Roots' new CD, Game Theory, has been handled. He said, "I don't know dude and I truly enjoy every one of his albums, but how any music exec could see past the fact that this label released albums from Method Man and The Roots ON THE SAME DAY with damn near no promotions (respective to how these artists are used to being treated) is totally beyond me." We know Meth isn't a happy camper, but have The Roots joined the campfire? (I have to say Game Theory is nipping on the heels of Illadelph Halflife!)
D'ANGELO'S BACK?
I'm hearing that D'Angelo is finally back and in good health! Man, if you didn’t know, he had quite a battle with substance abuse, but recently appeared on the new J.Dilla album (RIP). He's recording songs for his next album. I heard he met with Jermaine Dupri in New York at Virgin Records talking about plans for the future. We’re happy about that because he made some soulful music.
QUICKIES
Damn. Sympathy shout out to Anna Nicole Smith. Her 20 year-old son (Daniel) died days after she gave birth to her new baby. No additional information has been given but it’s pretty tragic.
To celebrate her Respect M.E. greatest hits album, Missy Elliott will be headlining an exclusive gig at the Hammersmith Palais in the UK on October 5. Click here for more information, my Brit friends.
I'm not sure, but I heard that Xzibit might have gotten his money taken from a gang of Jacksonville strippers. More info? Send it, G!
It was difficult to see Keisha Knight Pulliam (aka the adorable “Rudy” on “The Cosby Show” as sexy after she shot a series of hot pictures for various men’s mags. But it’s even more difficult to believe that she’s got a coke habit. That’s the word on the street, but I’m going to say I don’t believe until the word is confirmed.
ILL VIDS
THE ROOTS AND JAY-Z! I really feel that The Roots and Jay-Z represent two points of Hip-Hop's greatness and for that, I offer a pair of Ill Vids from them. Please support Game Theory. It’s some dope Hip-Hop straight from the heart. Here is a live rendition of "Clock With No Hands." I wish I knew how to rap after hearing this.
"Streets Is Watching"
